Our Criteria for Care

Because we are a small business focused on special adults needs dogs, our clients must meet the following criteria:
- SAN FRANCISCO ONLY: We are currently only able to accept bookings within San Francisco City Limits.
- ONE-YEAR AGE MINIMUM: We require the dogs we serve to be at least one year of age, as puppies require specialized care that we’re not equipped to provide.
- MINIMUM TWO-NIGHT BOOKING FOR NEW CLIENTS: Because of the extensive preparation we often do prior to a stay, we require a minimum two-night overnight stay booking for new clients. We are willing to consider one-night stays for established clients.
- POSITIVE-METHODS ONLY: We are committed to positive methods and decline clients who use force or fear with their pets. Specifically, Tita’s Dog Sitting will not use and declines clients who currently use prong or choke collars, physical corrections, or other aversive / punishment methods with their pets. We also discourage the use of electric fences and encourage caregivers to learn about the risks they pose to training & safety.
If your fur family meets our criteria for care, read on for our offerings!
We Guarantee Overnight Care
Overnight care starting at $100/night

Booking a stay with Mel and Aaron guarantees that your pet will receive in-home overnight care from one or both of us! Typically, this means in-person care from 5:30pm until 8:00am.
Overnight Care: What Your Pet Will Receive
Your pet will have the reassuring experience of our presence in your home during the night and early morning for their regular feeding, evening exercise and play, and bedtime schedule. We may leave to get dinner for ourselves, but we’ll return shortly to spend the majority of the evening with your pet — and if/when we leave for the day, we’ll make sure that before we do, your dog is safe, fed, walked, and supplied with everything they need while we’re away.
Overnight Care: What You’ll Receive
You’ll receive a minimum of three photos a day and we guarantee at least one detailed update by text. You’ll also have 24/7 phone or text access to Mel for emergencies.
We also guarantee respectful house care: cleaning up after ourselves, sanitizing areas used, placing used linens near washer, and emptying trash or recycling when possible before leaving.
As requested, we happily do minor chores like bringing in the mail and watering plants as a courtesy. For larger projects (say, cleaning your pool — which we have done!) — we’d be happy to negotiate a fair price. Please feel free to ask.
Overnight Care: Our Rates
Our flat rate for overnight care is $100/night for 1-2 dogs, with an additional $25 fee per dog for three dogs or more.* PLEASE NOTE: We have a two-night stay booking minimum for first-time clients. As a first-time client, you are welcome to choose to have us stay for only one night, but due to the significant investment of time we make in preparing for a stay with each of our clients, we charge a flat $200 one-night stay fee. We are willing to consider one-night stays at our regular rate for established clients.
After your Booking Consultation, a 25% nonrefundable deposit of the total fee for the stay is required to confirm and hold your dates. We will send you an invoice as soon as possible once you indicate you would like to move forward with us. Your dates will be released to other clients within 72 hours of our invoice being sent if the deposit is not placed. We are unable to make exceptions to this policy — thanks for understanding!
Note for clients who book through Rover: If you initially contacted us through Rover, we’re so glad you found us! Your booking includes a 25% Rover service fee, which provides the Rover Guarantee‘s coverage in the event of eligible vet care claims or property damage during our stay. We do not require a deposit from Rover clients — Rover automatically applies a cancellation fee, as applicable, to your credit card if the booking is cancelled. Per Rover’s Terms of Service, we are required to use the Rover payment platform to complete your first booking.
Do You Need Daytime Care?
Daytime care starting at $50/day; availability varies

Mel and Aaron are currently accepting bookings for Summer 2024, when Aaron will be on SFUSD summer break. This means that we anticipate that Aaron will be available for daytime care in addition to nighttime care for bookings in June and July 2024.
How do you know if your dog needs daytime care? Your dog needs daytime care if they cannot be left on their own at home for the length of a standard workday (~8 hours).
Our standard package for daytime care is $50 on top of the flat rate for overnight care and includes: one 15-20 minute daytime walk (between 9am – 4pm), a minimum of two 15-minute play or basic training sessions, and the guarantee that your pet will be not be left alone for more than four hours without a check-in (walk or play/training session).
We will discuss and confirm availability and interest for daytime care and your dog’s specific needs during our Booking Consultation.
*If you have booked through Rover, additional fees for Daytime Care will be separately invoiced and billed to you directly.
Alternative Options for Daytime Care
If your dog needs daytime care and we are not available, we strongly encourage you to hire a drop-in dogwalker for additional support during your time away — and if you have a regular dog-walker, we’re happy to defer to them!
24-Hour Companionship Care
If your dog requires 24-hour around the clock companionship — meaning, they cannot be left alone due to severe separation anxiety or other medical concerns and that either Mel or Aaron must always be present in the home with them — we may be able to accommodate this need on a case-by-case basis. Our flat rate for 24-hour companionship, if available, is $200/day.
A Note About Leashes

For your pet’s safety, it is our policy to keep pets on leash in public places.
We also encourage pet parents to learn more about the pros and cons of retractable leashes and how to use them safely if you choose to do so. It is our policy to use a regular flat 6-foot leash for each of your dogs while they are in our care, as this is safer for us aand them (especially while we’re getting to know each other!) If you do not have a regular flat leash at home, we will supply our own.
Lastly, if your pet goes on walks using a leash clipped to a collar, we’ll check it for security. For dogs whose heads are smaller than their necks, we may use a no-slip martingale collar while caring for your pet to guarantee they stay safe with us.

This is Bella. She takes daily seizure medication that it’s really important for her not to miss, and she really had strong opinions about those pills!
There is no additional charge for giving your pet medication if it is in a pill form, if they are able to easily independently swallow it using food as an enticement, and if it is typically administered at or near mealtimes.
- If your pet typically requires direct administration of pills into their mouth by hand or the use of a “piller,” there is an additional $10/day fee.
- If your pet requires oral administration of medication using a syringe, there is an additional $10/day fee.
- If your pet requires insulin injections, there is an additional $10/day fee.

*If you have booked through Rover, additional fees for Medication will be separately invoiced and billed to you directly.

We commit to communicating with you promptly regarding health or behavioral changes in your pet and to transporting your pet to your established vet and/or the ER as needed. Please see our New Clients page for more about the info we’ll ask you to provide regarding your pet’s health and vet care.
In the rare circumstance that we transport your pet for medical care (in communication with you or per prior agreement) there is a $25/hr fee for vet accompaniment and we will invoice you for any transportation-related costs (e.g., Lyft). Bathing Your Pet
(In Exceptional Circumstances)

If there is an exceptional circumstance that requires that we bathe your pet, there is an additional bathing fee of $30.
We have this fee because one of our clients in Charlottesville, VA (pictured) really couldn’t resist a good ol’ skunk chase.
*If you have booked through Rover, additional fees for Bathing will be separately invoiced and billed to you directly.
Cat Care
Price Varies

Cat care co-booked with a overnight dog care stay includes feeding, litterbox cleaning, and playtime and is complimentary for 1 cats. Due to the increased work of feeding and litterbox cleaning for multiple cats, our additional rate for 2+ cats is $10 per cat, per day.
*If you have booked through Rover, additional fees for Cat Care will be separately invoiced and billed to you directly.
We are open to cat-care only overnight stay bookings; however, due to the time and energy required for our commute, we also charge a flat rate of $100/day for cat-care only bookings. However, we will not charge you for additional cats if you book us for a cat-care only booking. While we would love to stay with your cat, this level of care may be more than an independent kitty needs and we encourage you to explore other great cat care options!
Caring for Other Pets
Starting at $10/day when booked with a dogsitting stay

We’ve also cared for chickens, lizards, snakes, and frogs, though we’re less experienced with these kinds of pets. When booked with an overnight dog care stay, there is an additional $10/day fee per “other” pet – this is negotiable depending on the level of care required. (So, for example, daily chicken feeding and watering would be an additional $10/day, but if you had a snake that only needed to eat once every three days, we’d be happy to only charge per feeding.)
*If you have booked through Rover, additional fees for Other Pet Care will be separately invoiced and billed to you directly.
